Dhanurasana Yoga (Bow Pose) Benefits , How to do and Precautions

It is a yoga posture in which our body resemble the shape of the Dhanush (bow). So it is called as Dhanurasana. It serves to diminish tummy fat and back pain. It is known as Bow Pose in English.

Benefits of Dhanurasana (Bow Pose) :-

1. Effective in weight loss.
2. Improves digestion and appetite.
3. Cures constipation.
4. Improves blood circulation.
5. Gives flexibility to the back.
6. Strengthens back muscles.
7. Act as a stress reliever.
8. Cure menstruation disorder.
9. It improves posture.
10. Cures back pain.
11. Cures respiratory disorder like asthma.

Steps to Perform Dhanurasana (Bow Pose):-

>> Lie on your stomach with your feet hip-width apart and your arms by the side of your body.

>> Fold your knees and hold your ankles.

>> Breathing in, lift your chest off the ground and pull your legs up and back.

>> Look straight ahead with a smile on your face. Curve your lips to match the curve of your body!

>> Keep the pose stable while paying attention to your breath. Your body is now taut as a bow.

>> Continue to take long deep breaths as you relax in this pose. But don’t get carried away! Do not overdo the stretch.

>> After 15 -20 seconds, as you exhale, gently bring your legs and chest to the ground. Release the ankles and relax.

Precautions to be Taken while Performing Dhanurasana (Bow Pose) :-

1. Do not try this pose at all if you suffer from hernia, back problems or even cervical spondylosis.
2. Women should avoid practicing this yoga pose during pregnancy.
